I'm actually posting a little early that one week since my last post because Vixie's Lick Granuloma has made significant improvement. Last Friday I had Vixie's granuloma injected with Kenelog (triamcinalone). This is an injection that your veterinarian can do and is relatively cheap.
Here's Vixie's leg on Saturday February 20th.
I continued to apply the hydrocortisone to the spot twice a day and wrap the site with coban to keep her from licking the site. Here is her leg on Tuesday February 23rd.
As you can see, the granuloma is almost gone and hair is starting to grow back at the site. I even took her and Rio out for a "hunting walk" to burn out some of her energy so she's less tempted to lick the site. She has finished her course of antibiotics. The Kenelog injection seemed to really turn the granuloma around. This wasn't suggested to by my veterinarian at first, but Kenelog is something we use quite frequently in Dermatology to decrease the size of benign growths. My research on the internet also showed that it can be used in veterinary dermatology as well.
If your dog has a lick granuloma ask your veterinarian about all the treatment options, including topical and injectable steroids. This is the fastest I've been able to get a lick granuloma healed on an English Setter.
