FOUND DECEASED DOG
Posting this in case someone is missing their beloved pet.
I was driving home back to Sand Coulee on Fields Road , and about 300 yards north of the Sand Coulee cemetery along the east side of the road I noticed a white trash bag lying in the burrow pit that hadn't been there before. Something told me to go back and make sure it wasn't a discarded pet in the garbage bag. I cut the bag open....leaves, a few items of garbage. But then I noticed something "strategically" placed under the trash bag....a small rat terrier female, black and brown face, white body with two large black spots on her back and her rump and tail were black. The fur was almost entirely intact but the dog was very stiff. No decay, no maggots, no evidence of coyotes, crows or magpies eating on the carcass (meaning it was just recently dumped). Judging by the teeth I would say that this dog was 4-6 years old as they were very white and sharp. The nipples were enlarged, which looks like she may have recently just had a litter of puppies. There was no collar on the dog, but I also couldn't make out an indention in the coat where there appeared to be a collar. No bullet wounds or blood. Musculature and weight appeared appropriate for breed indicating that this dog was taken care of. I am posting a picture here to help someone identify the dog if they are missing her just because of the suspicious nature in which I found the dog.
This is what I think the dog looked like alive (kind of )

Do you think it got hit by a car?
ReplyDeleteThat is a great question. Glad you asked. That is a possibility. However I did not note any blunt force trauma, abnormalities in the spine or legs indicating fracture. It was also on a gravel road...and I would have expected to see gravel abrasions in the hide if that was the case. And the medium size garbage bag was so conventionally places right on top of the dog. There was also a dog recently murdered out on the area in December which raises my suspicions.
